Ralph's father was William Brereton and his mother was Martha Jennion. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Ann, George, William, Elizabeth, Martha, Mary, Ellen, Hannah and Sarah. He was the seventh oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 66 in 1839 in Halton.
