Elizabeth was born in 1813.  Elizabeth's father was Ralph Brereton and her mother was Alice Owen.  Her paternal grandparents were William Brereton and Martha Jennion. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, William, Ralph, Martha, Ann, Mary, Esther, Ellen and Sarah.  She was the third youngest of the ten children.
