Ruth's father was William Brereton and her mother was Annie Elizabeth Bethell. Her paternal grandparents were John Brereton and Elizabeth Manley; her maternal grandparents were William Bethell and Anne Roberts. She had a brother named William. She was the older of the two children. She died at the age of 64 on April 2nd, 1969 in Bromborough.²
