John Brereton

John was born in 1623 in Brereton cum Smethwick and his baptism took place there on November 21st, 1624.

John's father was Sir John Brereton and his mother was Lady Anne Fyton. His paternal grandparents were Lord William Brereton and Margaret Savage; his maternal grandparents were Sir Edward Fyton and Dame Anne Fyton. He had two brothers and two sisters, named William II, Edward, Mary and Jane. He was the fourth oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 33 on October 22nd, 1656 in Malpas. His burial was in October 1656 at St. Oswalds (Malpas).¹

Death Notes
- There is mention of a Will dated February 8, 1653/54: written by John of Nantwich, mercer, refering to his two sons, John and William, both under age, and an estate at Bartherton in the Parish of Wybunbury and tenements in Blacklow.
  
  John is buried with his brother William (1611-1664) and both parents (and others) at St Oswald Churchyard

General Notes
- John of Malpas, refered to in the book "The Brereton Families of Bedford & Helmingham".
  
  He was described as a "Mercer", a dealer in cloth and textile fabrics, especially silks, velvets, and other fine materials.
  
  The family appear to have moved (probably after John died) to Prestbury where wife Dorothy was buried in 1668 (an uncommon name for burials). Sons John and William also married at Prestbury (in 1682 and 1700).
