Jane was born in February 1841 in Great Budworth.1  Jane's father was Ralph Brereton and her mother was Margaret Whitlow.  Her paternal grandparents were Ralph Brereton and Alice Owen. She had a brother and a sister, named James and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the three known children.
