Elizabeth was born in 1836 in Odd Rode and her baptism took place on September 18th, 1836.1 2  Elizabeth's father was George Brereton and her mother was Mary Keen.  Her paternal grandparents were George Brereton and Mary Jackson. She had three brothers and two sisters, named William, John, George, Emma and Mary.  She was the fifth oldest of the six children.
