Elizabeth was born in 1767 in Acton by Nantwich and her baptism took place there on February 1st, 1767.¹

Elizabeth's father was John Brereton Snr and her mother was Anne (Hannah) Huxley. Her paternal grandparents were John Brereton and Maria (Mary) Blackmore. She had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Randle, Mary, Mary, Mary and Sally. She was the second oldest of the seven known children.
