Edwin was born in September 1853 in Nantwich.1  Edwin's father was Henry Brereton and his mother was Elizabeth Ellerton.  His paternal grandparents were George Brereton and Sarah Fearns. He had three brothers and five sisters, named George, (William), John, Sarah, Mary, Jane, Emily and Eliza.  He died at 6 months old in March 1854 in Audlem.1
