Joseph was born on May 21st, 1801 in Newsome and his baptism took place on June 18th, 1801 in Almondbury.1  Joseph's father was Michael Blackburn and his mother was Hannah Eastwood.  His paternal grandparents were Michael Blackburn and Hannah Scover. He had three brothers named John, George and Uriah.  John and Joseph were twins. He had a half-sister named Hannah.  He died at the age of 57 on December 17th, 1858 in Birstall.2

‌Joseph and Ruth were married in a religious ceremony on January 1st, 1838 in Almondbury.3   They had four sons and a daughter, named Luke, Edwin, George, Thomas and Hannah.
