George was born in 1844.  George's father was Joseph Blackburn and his mother was Ruth Berry.  His paternal grandparents were Michael Blackburn and Hannah Eastwood. He had three brothers and a sister, named Luke, Edwin, Thomas and Hannah.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
