Charles was born in September 1865 in Bury.1  Charles' father was John Banks and his mother was Rachel Holt.  His paternal grandparents were Philip Banks and Sarah Bolton. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Richard, Sarah, Mary, Mary and Margaret. He had an adopted brother and an adopted sister, named Peter and Elizabeth. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Thomas, Sarah, Mary and Elizabeth.
