William's father was Daniel Alsop and his mother was Mary Nuttall. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Daniel, James, Daniel, Alice and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died as an infant at the age of 1 in 1848 in Bolton.¹
