Daniel's father was Daniel Alsop and his mother was Mary Nuttall. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, William, James, Daniel, Alice and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.  He died due to a childhood disease at the age of 5 in June 1861 in Bolton.¹
