Mathew was born in 1780 in Halliwell. Mathew's father was Richard Allen and his mother was Rachel Knowles. He had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, John, Thomas, William and Betty.  He was the third youngest of the six children.  He died on September 19th, 1780 in Halliwell.  He was buried on September 19th, 1780 at St. Mary (Deane).
