Betty's father was Richard Allen and her mother was Rachel Knowles. She had five brothers named Thomas, John, Thomas, Mathew and William.  She was the second youngest of the six children.

‌Betty and John were married in a religious ceremony on July 15th, 1801 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²   The family line is yet to be completed.
