John was born on June 2nd, 1791. John's father was Daniel Dye and his mother was Abigail Hutchinson. His paternal grandparents were Vincent Dye and Sarah Artepe. He had six brothers and a sister, named Vincent, Daniel, William, Reuben, Enoch, David and Elizabeth. He was the youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 91 in 1882.
