Mabel was born in 1886.  Mabel's father was Henry Gilson and her mother was Louisa.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Gilson and Eliza. She had a brother and eight sisters, named James, Louisa, Annie, Rose, Ellen, Hilda, Ada, Jessie and Florence.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.
