Florence was born in 1899.  Florence's father was Henry Gilson and her mother was Louisa.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Gilson and Eliza. She had a brother and eight sisters, named James, Louisa, Annie, Rose, Mabel, Ellen, Hilda, Ada and Jessie.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
