James Lewis was born in May 1844.  James Lewis' father was Oliver Perry Jackson and his mother was Susan Jane Powell.  His paternal grandparents were William Jackson and Sarah Sally McSwain; his maternal grandparents were Lovely Abraham Powell and Sarah Allen.  He was the oldest of seven children.  He had four brothers and two sisters, named William Allen, David Daniel, John Howard, Durrett W., Susan Jane and Margaret Ann.  He died at the age of 67 on March 20th, 1912.
