Elizabeth was born in 1843.  Elizabeth's father was John Samuel Asbell and her mother was Sarah Bicknell.  Her paternal grandparents were William Asbell Sr. and Elizabeth Moore; her maternal grandparents were Thomas E. Bicknell III and Mary Nancy Asbill Reeder.  She was the twelfth of thirteen children.  She had nine brothers and three sisters, named Harrison, Henry, William, John, David, Sylvester, James, Alford, Washington, Ellen, Mary and Sarah Louisa.
