Grietje was born on May 13th, 1849 in Diever.1  Grietje's father was Jan Harms Veenstra and her mother was Grietje Bartelds Oost.  Her paternal grandparents were Harm Jans Veenstra and Geesjen Klaassen Haveman; her maternal grandparents were Barteld Hilberts Oost and Grietje Jacobs Punt. She had three brothers and a sister, named Barteld, Harm, Egbert and Geesje.  She was the third oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 62 on November 10th, 1911 in Diever.2
