Egbert was born on June 3rd, 1855 in Diever.1  Egbert's father was Jan Harms Veenstra and his mother was Grietje Bartelds Oost.  His paternal grandparents were Harm Jans Veenstra and Geesjen Klaassen Haveman; his maternal grandparents were Barteld Hilberts Oost and Grietje Jacobs Punt. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Barteld, Harm, Geesje and Grietje.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 64 on August 8th, 1919 in Ooststellingwerf.2
