Cornelis was born in 1762 in Oosthuizen. Cornelis' father was Claas Melisz Spaans and his mother was Maartje Sijmons Paauw / Pauw.  His paternal grandfather was Melis Spaans; his maternal grandfather was Sijmens Paauw. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Melis, Sijmen, Jan, Cornelis, Sijmen, Sijmen, Vrouwtje , Aagje and Aagje.  He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.  He died before 1764.
