Aagje was born in 1763 in Oosthuizen. Aagje's father was Claas Melisz Spaans and her mother was Maartje Sijmons Paauw / Pauw.  Her paternal grandfather was Melis Spaans; her maternal grandfather was Sijmens Paauw. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named Melis, Sijmen, Jan, Cornelis, Cornelis, Sijmen, Sijmen, Vrouwtje  and Aagje.  She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
