Thomas was born in 1710 in East Leake, Nottinghamshire, , England.  Thomas' father was Thomas Dexter and his mother was Anne Bexon.  His maternal grandparents were Richard Bexon and Ann. He had three brothers and five sisters, named George, Robert, Joseph, Ann, Mary, Sara, Elizabeth and Susana.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
