Elizabeth was born in 1709 in , Nottinghamshire, , England.  Elizabeth's father was Thomas Dexter and her mother was Anne Bexon.  Her maternal grandparents were Richard Bexon and Ann. She had four brothers and four sisters, named George, Thomas, Robert, Joseph, Ann, Mary, Sara and Susana.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
