Catherine was born on June 2nd, 1854 in Adelaide, SA.1   Catherine's father was Palmer OCKENDEN and her mother was Emma MARSHALL.  Her paternal grandparents were William OCKENDEN and Elizabeth HILLS. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Palmer, Robert, Harry, Frances, Emma, Agnes and Clara.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
