Herbert Edwin MATTHEWS

Herbert was born on September 4th, 1877 in Woodville, Adelaide, SA.¹   Herbert's father was Henry Thomas James MATTHEWS and his mother was Caroline FLEET.  His paternal grandparents were Henry MATTHEWS and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Thomas FLEET and <Unknown>. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Samuel, James, Arthur, Arthur, Margaret, Typhena, Diolinda, Elizabeth, Clara, Amelia and Letitie.  He was the second youngest of the twelve children.
