Dorothy Highley may have insinuated that it was this Thomas Balfe that owned the property that is now the Smith falls Golf Course.
Thomas was very successful and was a doctor.  it states in his brothers John's obit, that Thomas traveled to Europe.

This Thomas bought the Rose farm, which later became the Smith falls Golf Course and Country Club.

I think that this Thomas had a son named John
.  In the RR it showed a obit
"John Balf was from S. Elmsley.  As mentioned, on Tues, he had gone to Hamilton to visit his brother, Dr. Thomas Balfe, before latter, sailed to Europe.  While there, he had taken ill after his brother's departure and was taken to the hospital (St Joseph's).  A telegram yesterday said he was better but the improvement was temporary and in the early hours of the morning  he passed away.  He had not engaged good heath for some time. He suffered from rheumatism and in the end, this affected his heart, which caused his death.  Mr Balf was the son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Balf of S. Emsley and he was well known in the community.  He was married last Oct.  He was 30 years old.  The Funeral was at fathers residence, to St Frances de Salle, to RC Cemetery.
