Andrew's father was Alexander Falconer Tait and his mother was Janet Smith. His paternal grandparents were John Tait and Ann Dalrymple Falconer; his maternal grandparents were Alexander (or Ramsey) Smith and Janet (or Ann) Purdie. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Alexander, Ann, Elizabeth and Janet. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 59 on May 1st, 1901 in 4, Belvedere, Bath, Somerset, England. The funeral took place on May 17th, 1901 in Lansdown Cemetery, Lansdown Road, Bath. He was buried in Section 4, Row G, Plot 25..¹¹
