Marion was born on April 12th, 1717 in Leips, Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland and her baptism took place there on April 18th, 1717.  Marion's father was James Pennycock and her mother was Marion Hodge.  Her maternal grandparents were John Hodge and Jean Dickson. She had two sisters named Janet and Isobel.  She was the second oldest of the three children.
