Harold was born on November 2nd, 1861 in 6 Abbey Place, Abbey Wood, Erith, Kent, England. Harold's father was Thomas Borrowman Renton and his mother was Sarah Anne Hayes. His paternal grandparents were William Renton and Marion Borrowman; his maternal grandparents were Unknown and Ann Hayes. He had nine brothers and three sisters, named William Hayes, Horace, Malcolm, Oliver, Arthur Robert, Ronald, Ernest Inkerman, Tom, Allan, Elizabeth Edith, Marion Alison Hayes and Olivia Hayes. He was the second youngest of the thirteen children.-
