Henry was born in 1796 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, England.  Henry's father was Thomas Parsons and his mother was Betty Harris.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Parsons and Sarah Unknown; his maternal grandparents were George Harris and Ann Unknown. He had six brothers and three sisters, named George, George, William, John, John, Thomas, Elizabeth, Ann and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named Thomas.
