Hugh Gavin was born on January 28th, 1805 in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. Hugh Gavin's father was David Beath and his mother was Barbara Douglas Park. His paternal grandparents were David Beath and Jean Durie. He had a brother and a sister, named David Alexander and Eliza Park. He was the oldest of the three children. He had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Robert Maitland, Alexander, John, George Bailas, George, James, Elisabeth and Jane. He died at the age of 9 in 1814 in Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland.-
