David was born on April 16th, 1721 in Leaden Urquhart, Strathmiglo, Fife, Scotland. David's father was William Beath (of Pitgorne) and his mother was Marion Ireland.  His paternal grandparents were William Beath and Katherine Storer; his maternal grandparents were George Ireland and Marie Chrystie. He had five brothers named George, Robert, William, George and George. He had an adopted brother named David. He had three half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, John, Marjorie, Katharine, Jean, Kathleen and Sophia.
