Jean was born on May 31st, 1733 in Strathmiglo, Fife, Scotland. Jean's father was William Beath (of Pitgorne) and her mother was Mary Orrock. Her paternal grandparents were William Beath and Katherine Storer; her maternal grandparents were John Or James? Orrock and Mary Crawford. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, John, Marjorie, Katharine, Kathleen and Sophia. She was the third youngest of the eight children. She had seven half-brothers named David, George, Robert, William, George, George and David.-
