Arthur was born in 1880 in Newport Pagnall, Buckinghamshire. Arthur's father was Thomas MOSELEY and his mother was Hannah BRITTEN. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, William, Walter, John, Sidney, Joe, Elizabeth, Ellen, Ada, Jessie and Minnie.  He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.
