Joseph was born in 1897 in Wallingford, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.¹ Joseph's father was Joseph William COOK and his mother was Kathleen Sarah COOK. His paternal grandparents were John Edward COOK and Fanny HALL. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Jack, Bill, Edward, Frederick, Robert, Kathleen, Annie and Vi. He was the oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 71 in 1968 in Porangahau, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.¹
