Jean was born on June 20th, 1819.  Jean's father was Pierre Mire and his mother was Henriette Bernard.  His paternal grandparents were Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and Madeleine Melançon; his maternal grandparents were Jean Bernard and Madgeleine Dugas. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Benjamin, Jean, Everiste, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie and Marie.  He was the eleventh oldest of the twelve children.
