Benjamin was born on November 11th, 1797.  Benjamin's father was Pierre Mire and his mother was Henriette Bernard.  His paternal grandparents were Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and Madeleine Melançon; his maternal grandparents were Jean Bernard and Madgeleine Dugas. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Jean, Everiste, Jean, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie and Marie.  He was the oldest of the twelve children.
