Jean was born on February 9th, 1801.  Jean's father was Pierre Mire and his mother was Henriette Bernard.  His paternal grandparents were Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and Madeleine Melançon; his maternal grandparents were Jean Bernard and Madgeleine Dugas. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Benjamin, Everiste, Jean, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie and Marie.  He was the third oldest of the twelve children.
