He married JEMIMA CURTIS Abt. 1785 in Natchez District, Mississippi, daughter of RICHARD CURTIS and PHOEBE COURTNEY. She was born 1764 in Craven County, South Carolina, and died Aft. 1837 in Jefferson County, Texas.

      Notes for ABSALOM BENJAMIN COLE:
  Absalom was appointed Justice of the Peace on January 21, 1834 in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. He performed marriages in Calcasieu Parish when it was formed in 1840. Many Cole kin were married by Absalom, however, the Court records were burned in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1910, and those marriage records were lost.

James' father was James Cole Jr and his mother was Mary Rentfroe. His paternal grandfather was James Cole Sr and his paternal grandmother is J. (Cole); his maternal grandparents were James Rentfroe and Ester Van Bibber. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Stephen, Solomon, Mark, William, Mary, Sarah and Susanna. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died about 1837 in Cow Bayou, Jefferson County, Republic of Texas.
