Marie was born on January 7th, 1810.  Marie's father was Edward Bourgeois and her mother was Madgeleine Mire.  Her paternal grandparents were Jean Bourgeois and Ludivine Granger; her maternal grandparents were Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and Madeleine Melançon. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Edouard, Jean, Jean, ?, Eudalie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Magdelaine, Marguerite and Emilie.  She was the third oldest of the twelve children.
