Jean was born on April 13th, 1815.  Jean's father was Edward Bourgeois and his mother was Madgeleine Mire.  His paternal grandparents were Jean Bourgeois and Ludivine Granger; his maternal grandparents were Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and Madeleine Melançon. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Edouard, Jean, ?, Eudalie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Magdelaine, Marguerite and Emilie.  He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.
