John was born on October 13th, 1873 in Brotton, Yorkshire district, North Riding, England and his baptism took place on June 3rd, 1874.1  John's father was George Cherry and his mother was Johanna Mary Rogers (Bloom).  His paternal grandparents were James Cherry and Anna Blenkiron; his maternal grandparents were James Rogers and Elizabeth Peacock. He had four brothers and a sister, named Joseph, James, Thomas, George and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the six children.  He died  due to coronary occlusion, arteriosclerotic heart disease at the age of 71 on May 4th, 1945 in Hawthorne, New Jersey.  He was buried on May 7th, 1945 in Cedar Lawn Cemetary, Paterson, New Jersey.
