Hasel was born on April 24th, 1897 in Paterson, Passaic, New Jersey.  Hasel's father was John Henry Cherry and her mother was Amelia (Emily)(Amilia)(Amalie) (Mila) Wilhemina Grossbeck (Grosbeck).  Her paternal grandparents were George Cherry and Johanna Mary Rogers (Bloom); her maternal grandparents were Franz A Grosspietsch (Grossbeck) and Amelia Pauline  Wiesner. She had a brother and four sisters, named John, Lillian, Florence, Beatrice (Beatricke) and Evelyn (Emilia).  She was the second oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 92 in 1989.
