Bernard, known as Bernie, was born on June 6th, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York.1  Bernie's father was Bernard Holbrook Bailey and his mother was Beatrice Eleanor Phinney.  His paternal grandparents were Arthur Allen Bailey and Caroline Holbrook; his maternal grandparents were William Lewis Phinney and Katherine Hamilton Thompson. He had two sisters named Katherine and Ellie.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died from cancer, prostate, at the age of 89 on June 7th, 2009 in Afton, Virginia.  He was cremated.2 2

They had a son and three daughters, named Donald, Norma, Nancy and Barbara.  Norma and Nancy are twins.
