Margaret was born on February 27th, 1794. Margaret's father was James Young and her mother was Katherine Alexander. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Young and Katherine Baillie; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Alexander and Helen Grinlaw/Greenlaw. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, James, Andrew, John, William, Helen, Cathren and Mary. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.-
