John Gillies

John was born in 1818 in 4 Old South Dell, Barvas, Ross-shire, Scotland.  John's father was Alexander Gillies and his mother was Margaret MacDonald.  His maternal grandparents were John MacDonald and Margaret MacDonald. He had a brother and three sisters, named Angus, Ann, Margaret and Flora.  He was the second youngest of the five children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Donald and Catherine.
