David was born in 1836 in Murroes, Angus, Scotland.1 David's father was Thomas Brown and his mother was Ann Davidson. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Brown and Isobel Watt; his maternal grandparents were Andrew Davidson and Christian Petrie. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Andrew, Charles, Isabel, Barbara and Ann.-
